Microsoft Dynamics 365 is the next generation of intelligent business applications in the cloud aimed at bringing together a unique set of business capabilities for your organization.
Dynamics 365 has two editions, Enterprise Edition and Business Edition. Business Edition is specifically designed for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), roughly from ten to a few hundred users. It includes Dynamics 365 for Financials, a comprehensive accounting and business management solution for SMBs, which is available for preview in the U.S. and Canada and known as Microsoft’s Project “Madeira”.
Full vs Light Users
The primary licensing model for Business Edition is based on user subscription. Dynamics 365 user subscriptions classify users as either “full users” or “light users”. Full users are the users who require full use of business apps such as sales people, supply chain managers, etc. In the past, these users have been referred to as Pro users or Power Users.
Light users are generally the large number of users in an organization that consume data or reports and who use the system to do tasks like entering time and expenses, printing reports, etc. In the Dynamics 365 model these users are licensed with the Team Members subscription.
What Types of Work Can “Light Users” Do?
A single Team Members, Business Edition subscription includes all the light use scenarios from within Dynamics 365, Business edition applications.
Users can perform key operational tasks including:
- Read anything that’s enabled in Financials or any other Dynamics 365 Application
- Create, edit, delete a quote or requisition
- Create, edit, delete personal information
- Enter a Time Sheet for Jobs
